DAYTON, Ohio (02/23/10) – Surinder Jain, Interim Associate Dean of Science, Mathematics and Engineering at Sinclair Community College, will receive the 2010 Outstanding Scientists and Engineers Award in Education.

Presented by the Affiliate Societies Council of Dayton, the Outstanding Scientists and Engineers Award honors an individual for career accomplishments in science and engineering.

Jain has been teaching courses in electronics, telecommunications engineering and physics for more than 43 years. During his time at Sinclair, Jain has received over $1 million in grants from the state government and manufacturers to renovate and re-tool electronics labs with modern test equipment and computers.

As the interim associate dean with more than 130 faculty and staff in his division, Jain’s main focus has been educating electronics engineering students to meet the needs of the industry. Jain has also developed special programs for local industry to combine education and training; more than 350 employees from Delphi, AK Steel, GM, GE and other area companies have successfully completed his courses.

Jain lives in Centerville and will receive his award at a special dinner at the University of Dayton Thursday, March 4.
